Audrey Riley trained at the Guildhall School Of Music, London with Leonard Stehn.  As an arranger and improvising cellist she has recorded for over two decades with numerous groups including Dave Matthews and The Smashing Pumpkins, giving her the opportunity to conduct both the Seattle and Chicago Symphony Orchestras.

With her own orchestra she has contributed arrangements to countless albums.  Recent years have seen Coldplay’s “A Rush Of Blood To The Head” and “XNY”, The Foo Fighter’s “Echoes And Silence”, three albums for Muse including “The Resistance” , a number of albums for Feeder, as well as Moloko, Amy MacDonald, Brendan Benson, Spandau Ballet, Birdy and James Blunt.  Three of her arrangements have featured on Grammy award winning singles.  Work with Muse and the musicians of La Scala, Milan have led her to establish a relationship with the orchestra there as a conductor for sessions.  She also recently completed her first film score, “The Third Letter”.

She has been a member of contemporary music group Icebreaker since 1989, and since 2009 has been co-MD, with James Woodrow. As a cellist she has performed with many dance companies: Royal Ballet, Scottish Ballet, Random Dance, Siobhan Davies Dance Company, in works by Kevin Volans, Michael Gordon and David Lang, and most recently with Jacky Lansley for whom she performed the Bach Cello Suites with inserts by Jonathan Eato.

From 2001 until its close in December 2011 she has been cellist for the Merce Cunningham Dance Company performing works by John Cage, Christian Wolf and Gavin Bryars, including Bi-ped and One 8, giving her the opportunity to work with, and learn from Takehisa Kosugi, Christian Wolf, John King, Bryars and many other MCDC composers.

As a soloist she has had numerous new works written for her, by David Lang, Emanuel Pimenta, Jonathan Eato, Craig Vear, as well as two by Gavin Bryars which she has recorded.  She performs regularly with James Woodrow in recitals of music for cello and classical guitar.

In 2003 she began A Change Of Light, a project of new works for cello in collaboration with composers and the visual arts, in collaboration with Andrew Zolinsky, James Woodrow, drummers Nick and Rob Allum, and artist Philip Riley. The compositions from this project have been released as a CD.

She is a tutor in composition and arranging for the B Mus degree at The Institute For Contemporary Music Performance, tutor in Instrumental Ensemble Studies at Brunel University, and regularly gives or takes part in composition and performance workshops in colleges.
