Ernst Zettl

Ernst Zettl works as a sound designer, composer and musician with various groups and artists from theatre, ballet, film and performance.  The main emphasis of his work lies in the construction and exploration of new sounds and sound spaces by means of electronic tools such as samplers, sound processors, computer interfaces, surround-sound systems, and the confrontation of these ‘artificial’ sound spaces with the acoustics of ‘real’ concert halls and theatres.

As a performing artist he plays acoustic violins and double bass as well as electronic interfaces (MIDI-guitar controller, ZETA MIDI-violin, The Virtual String) controlling various samplers and sound processors.

In 1999 he was asked to take over the sound design of a series of Icebreaker concerts at a few days notice and has been a member of the group ever since.
